Almond Crusted Bean Curd

I have always thought that soft white tofu/bean curd has very limited cooking recipe but my point of view changed after seeing this, on a foodie review magazine. I am so amazed by how the chef marinade and coating the tofu. From just a simple white tofu transformed into a 5 star dish. How's that sound?

And here's the recipe.

Ingredients :

500gm Japaneses press white tofu,
3 tbsp flour
120gm almond flakes

Seasoning :
1 tspn salt
1 tspn sugar
1/4 tspn ground pepper
1/2 tspn Chinese 5 spice powder
(combined all ingredient)

Coating Batter :
120gm all purpose flour
1 tsbp wheat starch
1 tbsp cornflour
1/2 tspn baking powder
1/2 tspn salt
1 tspn sugar
3 tbsp corn oil
200l water
(whisk all ingredients to a smooth batter)
*
Method :
- wrap tofu with a clean dry white cloth and keep refrigerated for 30mins.
- cut the tofu into bite size cubes and sprinkle with seasoning.
*

- coat tofu with flour and dip into batter, finally coat with almond flakes.
- deep fry in hot oil untill golden brown and drain on paper tower.
- it's best to serve hot with dipping sauce.

And ta...da.... here's the crispy coated bean curd! I'll have to say this is absolutely delicious. And it is so aromatic. I'm sure you would like to have a simple dipping sauce for this too. The recipe is as follow. So, hope you will enjoy this and happy cooking.

Hot & sour dipping sauce :
100ml sweet plum sauce
2 tbsp vinegar
90ml fish sauce
90ml lime/lemon juice
4 garlic, chopped
4 birds eye chillies, sliced
(combined all ingredients and mix well)
