Spinach Steamed Bun With Cream Corn Custard

Happy New Year to all ! I remember I've posted something about GREEN on the 1st day of 2010! And I am going for another GREEN today, the 1st day of 2011. It's green spinach steamed bun ! Time just flies so quickly........ So, what are the things you're wishing for on this new year? I think most importantly still ' WORLD PEACE' ! And NO MORE TSUNAMI, NO MORE EARTHQUAKE, NO MORE LANDSLIDE......etc. And also wishing the economy will be going back on track again soon. MAY GOD BLESS US ALL !!!

And not forgetting the recipe.... as follow.

Ingredients for Cream Corn Custard :
1 tbsp custard powder
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 can cream corn

60gm cornstarch/ flour
1-1/4 cup water
(combine & mix well)

Method :
(1) combine ingredients (A) and cook over medium heat untill sugar dissolved.
(2) stir in ingredients (B) and continue cooking untill thickened.
(3) leave aside to be cooling.
Ooo....I just can't help it and kept digging into the cream! haha...
Ingredients for Spinach Dough:
300gm superfine flour/bao flour
1/2 tspn yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tspn salt
70gm spinach
100ml water
1/2 tbsp cooking oil

Method :
(1) blend spinach together with water untill smooth.
(2) combine flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a big mixing bowl.
(3) stir in spinach mixture to form a soft dough.
(4) add in oil and knead untill smooth and leave aside for an hour.
(5) punch down the dough and knead for one minute.
(6) divide dough into 10 portion.

(1) roll each dough flat and place in the filling.
(2) seal the adges and plead with folding it neatly as shown in pictures.
(3) place bun onto a greaseproof paper and leave to proof for another 45 mins or untill double in size.
(4) finally, steam the buns over preheated steamer for about 12 mins. Then leave the buns stand in the steamer for 5 mins before removing them.
The spinach flavour is really strong & weird even after mixing with flour and steaming. I'm not sure pairing it with cream corn custard is it a good idea...... Well, it is actually quite delicious though. The corn custard is so tasty that I can't even remember I'm having a spinach bun. Ha! Hope you'll like it too. Enjoy and have fun!
